PPrivacy

Your information, your choice.

This privacy notice explains how Elevate4Change collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who we are

Elevate4Change ("Elevate", "we", "us") is a transformation platform and initiative of The 4Change Foundation (the Institute for Transformation), headquartered at 4Change Campus, 17 Alec Road, Ruimsig, Johannesburg, South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA, The 4Change Foundation is the responsible party — the body that determines why and how your personal information is processed.

You can reach us at info@elevatewellness.africa or on +27 72 849 0514.

2. What this notice covers

This notice applies to the Elevate4Change website, the Elevate web app, Elevate Activate event registration and ticketing, partner enquiries, and any communication you have with us. It covers visitors, change makers (leaders), community members, event attendees and partners.

3. The personal information we collect

Depending on how you engage with us, we may collect:

  • Identity and contact details — your name, email address and phone number when you register, join a cohort or contact us.
  • Event registration details — the details you provide when registering for Elevate Activate, including your ticket selection and any information needed to host you well.
  • Cohort information — the leader's link or cohort number you join with, and the community or organisation you belong to.
  • App usage and progress information — how you use the Elevate app, your learning progress, goals and rewards activity, where you have chosen to share it.
  • Partner enquiry details — your name, role, organisation and message when you enquire about partnering with Elevate.
  • Technical information — device, browser and usage data collected through cookies and similar technologies when you visit the site.
  • Payment information — payments for Elevate Activate are processed by Quicket. We do not see or store your card details; Quicket processes them under its own privacy policy.

4. Why we use your information, and on what legal basis

We process personal information only where POPIA allows it — typically:

  • With your consent — for example, to include you in a cohort, send you updates you asked for, or use anonymised behavioural data where you have opted in.
  • To perform an agreement with you — to register you for Elevate Activate, deliver your ticket, and give you access to the Elevate platform and its rewards.
  • For our legitimate interests — to run, secure and improve the platform and our events, and to report impact to partners in aggregated, non-identifying form.
  • To comply with the law — for example, financial and tax record-keeping around ticket sales.

5. Your choices — separate, plain-language consent

Taking part in Elevate is the only consent we require. Everything else is a separate, plain-language choice that you can make or change at any time:

  • Sharing behavioural and progress data with your cohort leader.
  • Anonymised, aggregated use of your data for commercial and impact reporting.
  • Receiving advertising, promotions and direct marketing messages from us.

You may withdraw any of these consents at any time, free of charge, by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing that happened before you withdrew.

6. Cohort information and your leader

If you join Elevate with a leader's link or cohort number, you are part of that leader's cohort. Detailed cohort reports are visible only to that leader and to Elevate, and you still choose what you share. If you join without a cohort number, you are placed in a default cohort administered by Elevate. Leaders who receive cohort information must use it only to lead and support their people, and are bound by confidentiality and POPIA.

7. Who we share your information with

We never sell your personal information. We share it only as needed, under written confidentiality and security obligations, with:

  • Operators (service providers) — such as Quicket (ticketing and payment), hosting and technology providers, and communication tools — who process information on our instructions only.
  • Your cohort leader — as described in section 6.
  • Brand partners — only in aggregated, anonymised form (for example, "the cohort completed 120 learning goals"), never in a way that identifies you, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise.
  • Regulators, courts or law enforcement — where the law requires it.

8. Cross-border processing

Some of our operators may store or process information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we ensure the recipient is bound by law, a binding corporate agreement or a contract that provides substantially similar protection to POPIA, as section 72 of the Act requires.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this notice, or as the law requires (for example, financial records of ticket purchases). When information is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or de-identified.

10. How we protect your information

We maintain appropriate, generally accepted technical and organisational safeguards — including access controls, encryption in transit and operator due diligence — to protect your information against loss, damage, unauthorised access and unlawful processing, as section 19 of POPIA requires. If a breach affects your information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as soon as reasonably possible where the law requires it.

11. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you, and request access to it.
  • Ask us to correct or delete personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date or unlawfully obtained.
  • Object to the processing of your personal information on reasonable grounds.
  • Withdraw any consent you have given, at any time.
  • Object to direct marketing and opt out of marketing messages at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (details in section 14).

To exercise any of these rights, contact our Information Officer (section 13). We will respond within a reasonable time and may ask you to verify your identity before acting on a request.

12. Direct marketing and cookies

We only send you direct marketing by electronic means with your consent, and every message includes a simple way to opt out. Our website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences and to understand how the site is used; you can control cookies through your browser settings.

13. Our Information Officer

Our Information Officer is responsible for our POPIA compliance and is your point of contact for any privacy question or request.
